Maison Bengal works with fair trade organisations in Bangladesh to harness and celebrate the exceptional handicraft skills of some of the region’s most marginalised communities.

Sheenagh Day created the brand after working in the aid industry in some of the region’s poorest areas and noticing the skilled craft of the local artisans. She set up a fair trade company on her return to the UK by way of creating a market for showcasing these skills through a comprehensive range of products.

Using locally sourced materials like jute and hogla sea grass, their designs are a collaboration of modern style and traditional techniques, giving each piece a timeless joy and practical durability.

Fifteen years on, Maison Bengal now works with over five thousand women throughout Bangladesh. Women who can work from home enabling them to care for and financially support their families. At the same time keeping traditonal techniques alive and respected.
